It might seem overwhelming at first when you look at the markings on the side of a tire. With a little clarification, however, you will have the essential information to help you find the right one for your vehicle.

The first letter, If there is one, represents the type of vehicle. A “P,” for example, tells you it’s rated for a passenger car. The three numbers following represent the width of the tire in mm. Following the slash, there is a two-digit number that indicates the ratio of the tire’s height to its width. A 65 would tell you that the height is 65% of the width. The next letter signifies the type of tire, so an “R” stands for radial. The last two-digit number represents the wheel’s diameter. If it’s a 15, then you need a 15” tire.
